The fire at the National Museum of Brazil in 2018 reminded me of the fragility of history: everything can be lost in an accident or a premeditated act.

Guatemala has a recurring relationship with fire, like the time the market La Terminal in zone 4 was burned, also the slaughter of the Spanish embassy in 1980, and the recent eruption of the Volcán de Fuego that ended in tragically... with 41 girls burned in the Hogar Seguro Virgen de la Asunción under the custody of public authorities.

The Interior works consist of 20 fire paintings in different sizes (enough to fill a wall of 5.45 meters wide by 3 meters tall), in different flames. It was shown in the Municipal Cultural Center and it made a lot of sense to me to fill a complete wall simulating the burning of it. I wanted to reflect these stories inside a building administered by the Guatemalan Government.

As it was a large work making an impression on its viewers, those who saw it remembered personal moments in their lives related to fire: the burning of the devil, the burning of the cornfield, etc. However in Guatemala we continue, in spite of everything, to think positively.
